Fried oreos are one of my favorite things to get at the fair. They’re everywhere at the Kentucky State Fair, along with deep fried twinkies and snickers bars. 😀 (ughhhhhhhh need) But they’re super easy to make at home, and they cost hardly anything! And what better way to end a fancy dinner?
- double stuffed oreos (If you’re gonna do it might as well go all out!)
- 1 1/4 cup pancake mix (I used Krusteaz buttermilk)
- 1 tablespoon canola/veggie oil
- 1 cup milk
- pinch of salt
- 1 egg
You’ll also need a pot filled with canola/veg oil heated to 350 F. I used a probe thermometer to make sure my temp was staying where it needed to be! 😀
Mix together the pancake mix with the rest of the ingredients – getting the batter right is key to nice fluffy fried oreos! You want the batter to be nice and thick and to coat the oreos well – if it’s so thin that you can see the designs on the cookie, you need to add more pancake mix.
You can see the difference between a thick batter and a thin batter below!
Fry the battered oreos right away in 350 F oil – they’ll puff up nicely! Flip them occasionally – they’ll only take a couple minutes. 🙂 Once they’re golden brown, drain them and remove them from the oil. Let them cool on paper towels and serve right away.
They’re not the best a couple hours after – they get soggy and weird. I cannot recommend frying them for eating later. 😉
