Dry shampoo is something I use all the time. I had been using the aerosol stuff more often, but I feel like it runs out too quickly and can leave lots of build up. The best part about this dry shampoo recipe is that it can be made with things you already have on hand! I’ve been using it for years – it works much better than cornstarch on it’s own, and it’s not stinky like baby powder.
In other words, IT IS PERFECT
Oh, and did I mention that if you use the cocoa you’ll smell like brownies? BONUS
DIY Dry Shampoo Recipe:
- 1/4 cup cornstarch
- 1 tablespoon baking soda
- 2 tablespoons cocoa powder (if you have dark hair!)
If you have light hair, only use the cornstarch and baking soda – for dark hair add the cocoa powder. You can add more or less cocoa powder based on your hair color – just don’t add too much or your dry shampoo will melt with the heat of your hands.
Pour the ingredients into a small container (an old spice jar is perfect!) and shake until they’re well combined.
To use the dry shampoo, pour a small amount (definitely less than a teaspoon) into one palm and rub your hands together to spread out the shampoo. Use your palms to smooth it on to the hair you’d like to cover. Tousle your hair to rub it in. You shouldn’t be able to see any powder on your hair when you’re done – but it you do, brush it! Repeat as necessary.
